Edith Gilbert Byerly
ELON, N.C. - Edith Gilbert Byerly, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family.
Edith was the wife of the late Walter Levi Byerly Sr. and the daughter of Columbus C. and Virgie Edna McCoy Gilbert, both deceased.
Edith was a retired textile worker and homemaker. She was a member of Ossipee Baptist Church and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Jean Mansfield and Betty Sue Byerly, both of Elon, Kathy Sue Byerly of Butner and Debbie Sue Burnette of Sandstone, Virginia; sons, Walter Levi Byerly Jr. (Chantal) and Jerry Lee Byerly, both of Burlington, and Joseph Byerly of Morehead; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Faye Maria Byerly; parents; sisters and brothers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ossipee Baptist Church by the Rev. Jason Wilkerson and the burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Elon.
Mrs. Byerly will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the residence.
