Most of us who are researching Nicholas Byars have him listed with two wives. The more I read his will, the more I think we have read too much into it. The transcription by Whitley in TENNESSEE GENEALOGICAL RECORDS may have planted ideas that were not accurate. The Davis Bible as owned by Mr. Troth has a listing for Henry Byars that he was born to Nicholas and Rhody Byars in 1800. It gives a death date for Rhody as 9 Aug. 1842. The family record in this Bible was begun about 1850, I believe, the year the Bible was purchased. Some of the birthdates go back to the 1754 listing for Cyrus Davis, Sr. It is possible the recorder of the dates was mistaken about the mother of Henry. The reference to Elizabeth Byars in the will could in all cases be the daughter of Nicholas who married Alexander Byars and apparently was dead by about 1829. The son William Byars appears to be the youngest child. Perhaps some unknown circumstance requires that the will treat him singularly. Do any of you have any thoughts on this matter?
