Pat, I do believe Bushrod was born in Culpepper County, VA. Harold Rollins found the following entry in VESTRY BOOK OF ST. MARK'S PARISH, VA 1730-1785 (Spotsylvania, Orange & Culpepper Cos): "At a vestry held at the Vestry House, 1st day of 1762 ... To John Green for serving a Capais on Sarah Ann Dogitt ... ". This payment to John Green was among a laundry list of bills being paid and Green was being paid for serving the Capais which indicated that it was served in Culpepper County.

Sarah Ann would have been in her mid teens at that time and what is now Rutheford County was Anson County. It became Mecklenburg in 1763 and Tryon in 1769. It did not become Rutherford until 1779. The earliest record of our William Byars in any of these counties was 1766.

I believe that Bushrod was born in VA, most likely at the home of Sarah Ann's parents.
