Lisa, I don't think anyone can find a record of the death of William Byars. Most researchers generally accept that he died DURING the Rev War. I don't know if that means he died IN the war or not. There is no record that he served in the war or that his widow ever applied for a pension.

I can tell you that William Byars was granted a claim on 200 acres in Tryon/Rutherford County on 1-20-1779. Then Sarah Byars shows up on a 1782 Tax list of Rutherford County as a property owner. That gives us a 3 or 4 year window for his death.
