I recently tracked down a Military Record for the above. The nickname "Mexican Mike" was given to him for serving in the Mexican War and to distinquish him from his brother-in-law Michael Alexander Buzzard. According to his Military Records he enlisted @ the end of the Mexican War.
on the 11 April 1848,At Kittanning,Pa for 5 years; salary $6.00. According to the roster sent he was to serve in 6 inf. Co K. Where he was sent upon enlistment is not mentioned on this roster.the man above and below him were sent to Fort McHenry in MD. Some family researchers may have heard the family story that he was in AZ. I'm checking to see if another Military record can be found for his service between 1848-1853. I'm wondering if he was sent out west to the indian territories. Also a notation was made he received a headstone J/5/1918. I think he died between 1900-1910. burial unknown prob. Pine Twp.Armstrong Co Pa. any help locating grave appreciated.
