I'm not related to this family.
It seems rather ODD that Valentine and his family could be missed for so many census'.
I'm inclined to believe those who suggest that the Valentine listed in the 1880 census as "MU" is your Valentine.I've read on other msg. boards that in the 1870 & 1880 census, if a person had any semblance of Indian or Black features they were listed as "MU".and then by 1900 that family was listed as "white".
Remember that 1880's was termed "The Reconstruction Era".It was an 'all' white world in the deep south.
What documentation do you have that shows Valentine being born in VA.??
Do you have a complete list of his children??
Have you ordered his death certificate?
Have you tried to order a death certificate of any of his siblings? They should have the same parents - hopefully!
