We have a msytery "Roberts" in our family. We found some funeral records that showed our Grandmother had a previous marriage. BIG SURPRISE TO US! This funeral record listed her surviving children, which of course we thought would be all Doyles, but instead also listed five Roberts children.
Our Grandmother's name was Frances Buxton, b. abt. 1851. Her father was Frances Pharaoh Buxton and mother was Mary Vianna.
The children with her first marriage were: George Roberts who lived in Leesville, LA and died in Oklahoma, Wendy Roberts, Lotus Roberts, Shrildee/Shrida "Shirley" Roberts and LeRoy Roberts. I do not know where the last four children were born or died. I assume in the Singer (Bearhead area) or DeRidder, LA area. Possibly Merryville, LA. Grandmother then married a James Doyle in Singer, LA. James and our Grandmother lived in Singer, LA, Bearhead area.
The court house in DeRidder had James and Frances marriage license/application and only showed her previous marriage was to a Roberts that was deceased. It did not give his name or any other information.
Does this look familiar to anyone out there?
