I notice that in the title of your query that you have ". . . brother of Jonas, William of Indiana . . ." Do you have information on William?
In Wilson Butt's will he did not mention William nor any heirs that William might have had. I do know that William m. Caroline McCoy 9 Mar 1941 in Jasper County, Missouri. They did not appear in the 1850 census. (I wonder if William & Caroline went to California to seek their fortune? Wilson reputedly went there before returning to Missouri and eventually settling in Montana) Later, I think it was about 1853 or so, when William & Caroline sold some property, I find nothing more about him. I believe it was she who m2 James Vandiver on 29 Aug 1855 in Jackson County, Missouri. And then I find Caroline & James VanDiver in the 1860 Jackson County, Missouri census. She had no Butt children with her.
I understand from VanDiver reserachers that she died soon after and even her VanDiver children did not fair so well.
Just wondering if you have any other information about William Butt.
