John Smith Butters and Eunice Grace married 27 Nov 1836 Huron, Ohio. Following the tide of emigration, John left new Haven, Ohio in the fall of 1841, for Iowa, with his wife and two children. They reached Scott Co. Iowa, spent the winter and in Spring settled in Andrew Jackson Co. Iowa, engaging in farming. They were some of the first settlers. In 1865 moved to Maquoketa, Iowa.
John Smith Butters father was Jacob. I'm stilling trying to find out more information on him. He is listed in the Pariot Index, DAR. States he was born in New York, not England, not like the "Butters Book of 1896" says. He died in New York, near Ithaca in 1816.I feel that Jacob was married before he married Rachel, John Smith, mother. In the "Butters Book" in the chapter about Jacob's brother, John, it states that Jacob having lost his wife in Orange Co. came with his only son, John, (not John Smith) to Ithaca. The son, John, went off and was never heard from again. If Jacob died in 1816, John Smith would have only been 3 yrs. old. Now the Butters book says he died 1818-1819. So Jacob had another son. Sure would like to find him. I'll let you know if I do.
