Am looking to find the family of John Smith Butters who was born in Albany Co., NY, on 26 March 1813 and died 8 May 1879 in Jackson Co., IA. I have his parents listed as Jacob Butters and Rachel Smith. John married Eunice Grace in 1836 in New Haven, Huron Co., OH. They had 9 children between 1838 and 1855: Sarah Ann, Harriet Amy, Commodore Perry, Philetus Swift, John Flanigan, Eunice, Michael Nelson, Eliza Dorcas "Louisa", and James Bartemus.

I also found the following information from the genealogical registry of the Butters family:

"John Smith Butters was only 6 years old when his father died. He went to live with his uncle, James Smith, and later he made his home with his uncle, Harvey C. Cook, who kept a tavern at Reading, NY. Here he remained until he was 20 years old, assisting his uncle, and occasionally driving down to the boat landing for passengers. He has referred in life to Ithaca, Watkins, and Horseheads as places visited before leaving the state, and these were towns where lived the families of John Butters, supposed to be his father's brother."

Would be happy to share what I have on this family and would like to know more about the early family of John Smith Butters.
