Hi Thane,
I'm the gg granddaughter of Charles Robert Butterfield. I've been researching gg grandpa for a number of years...and still looking! I received a post stating that possibly he was born in route to the West in a wagon....I have yet to source this information, and I doubt it will be an easy task.
I would like to keep in contact with you and compare notes, somebody has to break down this wall. I too have come to the possible conclusion that Abel is the father of Charles...makes sense but the census records never mention Charles as one of the children. The needle in the haystack...but I will find it!!!
