Do you have any lineage on Brigadier General Daniel Adam Butterfield? He was given command of the Third Brigade, First division, Fifth Army Corps, Army of the Potomac. He wrote "Taps" following the Seven Days Battle in the Peninsular Campaign, 1862. SEE Civil War Series, pamphlet "The Battle for Richmond, 1862,Eastern National Park and Monument Association, 1996, pg. 57. Sidney Daily News, Sidney, OH, Nov. 11, 2002, pg. 5B He was born Oct. 31, 1831, Utica N.Y., died July 17, 1901, Berne N.Y. Married Julia E. Brown. Father, John Butterfield (there are many by the name John). Mother Malinda Harriet Baker. Rootsweb.com I'M TRYING TO VERIFY TWO THINGS: (1) was Daniel's father the same John Butterfield, born 1801, d. 1869, who became the owner of one of the largest stagecoach companies, and later became the American Express Company? Daniel was the superintendent of the eastern division of the Am. Espress Company when he enlisted. He took the business course at Syracuse University before the war, never went to West Point, yet he has the largest monument among the other statues at West Point. The other officers hated him, so it goes. (2) Did Daniel Adam Butterfield have a brother Orville Orley Butterfield, b. 6 June, 1838, Fredonia NY, d. 9 October, 1913? O. O. Butterfield was my maternal great grandfather. What I have found on O.O. Butterfield through FamilySearch, verifies what my grandmother told us, except that the fathers of Daniel and O.O. are not one and the same. O. O.'s father is listed as Francis Asbury Butterfield. Grandmother always said Daniel was her uncle, but the fathers are different, I'm trying to find out what the match is. Betty Weaver Fridley, P.O.
