Butterfield Family Genealogy Forum

For many generations my family has cherished a heavy, woven bed cover dated 1834 and made by S. Butterfield, New Hartford, Oneida County, NY. This item is blue with white floral designs, eagles, and Washington on a horse with the saying "United we stand divided we fall" as well as other patriotic verse.
Our ancestor, Artemus Ward Brigham and his wife Sophia Phelps settled in the Utica area in the early 1820s or 1830s and could have purchased this bed cover first hand. I have found several prominent Butterfields in the Utica area but they were all active businessmen and it wouldn't seem like they would have had time to weave. Also, a man probably would have signed his whole first name and not just the initial "S” so we assume it was a spouse. Also in our family tree from the same area is the James Stone family as well as Deans, Giffiths and Phelps.
Does anyone have any idea who this weaver could be or have any suggestions as to where I could search next? Thanks for any suggestions.
