There was a Samuel Butterfield who emigrated in the early 1630's, but he was killed at the Saybrook Colony in 1636 and had no children. The earliest known Butterfield line in New England is Benjamin and his wife Ann and their children, who emigrated in the late 1630's to Charlestown, Bay Colony, at least 15 years after the Mayflower arrived. The passenger list of the Mayflower is pretty well documented and contains no Butterfields.
