I cannot tell you anything useful. You need to find a Butt family who was in Kentucky when Elizabeth was born ca 1798 - and who then was in a place to marry John Smith. When? Where?
There are no census records for 1800 Kentucky - only tax lists to work from. I do know that there was William Butt who first appeared in tax lists for Mason County, Kentucky in 1804 and who was there until at least 1810 when he was enumerated in that census with four males under 10 yo, 1 male 10-15 yo and himself at 26-44 yo. That would make him born between 1766 and 1784. In his household was also a female under ten yo and another female 26-44 yo. So that young female could be your Elizabeth.
William Butt then apparently moved north across the Ohio River because he disappeared from Mason County and appeared in Brown County, Ohio (which shares a border with Clinton County, Ohio). In 1820 William had a household of two males 10-15 yo, one male 26-25 yo, and himself at greater than 45 yo. This would make him born before 1775. So between the two census records we can say he was born between 1766 and 1775. Also in his household was one female less than 10 yo and one 10-15 yo. Again - the latter one could be your Elizabeth.
However, I have no evidence that William Butt b. 1766 - 1775 was in Kentucky before he first appeared in tax lists for Mason County in 1804. He could have lived in another county.
If this were my family I would try to find a marriage record for Elizabeth Butt and John Smith and then try to find families in the region that could be theirs. I would also make a thorough search of this William Butt. I do not know if any of his children have been identified.
Good luck
