OBITUARY: Dr. Harry J. BUTLER, MD
Dr. Harry J. Buter, 90 years old, former Deckerville resident died Monday morning – 18 October 1965 in Highland Park, after a brief illness. He had been hospitalized since the 31 of July when he fell and broke a hip.
Born 5 October 1875 in Lode, England son of the late Samuel and Mary Flack Butler. Came to Michigan with his parents and settled in Downington in Sanilac County. Wednesday, 27 October 1897 he married Miss Elizabeth Nichol at the family home in Bridgehampton Township.
He attended D. and D. school and later taught school at Deckerville, Carsonville and Peck, Michigan. In 1906, he entered the Detroit School of Medicine, graduating with an M.D. degree in 1910. Dr. Butler practiced medicine in Deckerville before moving to Highland Park in 1917.
Surviving are his two sons, Dr. Volney N. Butler, the present Senior Surgeon of Highland Park General Hospital and Vernon L. Butler of Hedges Wigwam, Royal Oak, Michigan; also three grandchildren. Mrs. Butler died 22 January 1965.
Funeral services were held 1 PM Thursday at Carman Funeral Home, Deckerville. Rev. Merle Nichol, pastor of Harbor Beach Methodist Church and Rev. Alan Weeks, pastor of the Deckerville Methodist Church, officiated.
