Hi Cindy,
I can perhaps set you on the right track here by telling you that Col. John Butler of Butler's Rangers did not have a daughter Sarah. In fact, if your Sarah was born in 1832, John Butler had been dead for 36 years, and would have been 104 at the time of her birth as he was born April 28 1728. Your Sarah may have been a great granddaughter perhaps, though my tree shows no Sarah in later generations. John Butler was never knighted, though considering his service to the King it's rather remarkable that he wasn't. He and his men settled the area around Niagara-on-the-Lake Ontario after the rebellion in the colonies ended. I concur with the previous response that you've taken your information about John Butler from an extremely fictionalized source. His rangers were frequently refered to as the most effective fighting force in the Revolutionary War. They travelled over extreme distances at great speed, carrying everything on their backs, often going without food for days. Throughout the Revolutionary War John Butler's wife and younger children were held as hostages by the Rebels. This was also true of many of his men. They were fighting for their own lives and the lives of their families. Hope this is of some use to you with regard to your genealogical hunt.
Cheers,
Wendy
