I received this message earlier this year....
Tess,
I just read your postings about John Butler. We are definitely related.
I guess it is a sort of 'step' relationship, though... Your g-grandmother was Ida, and her children were fromher first marriage..but, John became a father to those children, so we can count it as a true relationship.
You had more specific dates for the births and deaths of John's parents. Can you tell me where you found that out?His father was William Frederich Butler (sometimes it is listed as Frederich William, so I am not sure which it is supposed to be) was born in Prussia, and Rosa was born in Wurtenberg Germany. Her father's name was (I think) Richmond Guesinger. That last name appears with different spellings.
Do you have any idea where these two came to when they arrived in the US (what port?).I know when they came, but have not been able to locate through which port. She came in 1852, and I think he came in 1850 (not sure of him though).
Have you many relatives who come from Tilton?I recently obtained a book about Tilton, which was written for their centennial celebration in 1984. The Butler family was very prominent. I don't recall much about the Songer family...in fact, in the section on the Butler family, they only listed that John married a "Mrs. Songer" and said they had no children.
This is exciting to find another cousin....it would take me a while to figure out what our relationship would be....John's sister, Minnie, was my grandmother. They had a large family!14 children total, but 2 died in infancy...
Let me know if you want to know other information!
Thanks for writing in the message board!!
