You may be interested to learn, if you are not already aware of it, that a daughter of Mary Butler and Thomas Ashby married a Union soldier. Julia Ann Ashby, b. abt.1847 in AL, mar. 27 Jul. 1865 in Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co. IN, to Calvin Garrett. She died 30 Nov. 1890 in Clay Co. AR. Her husband Calvin Garrett was born in Maynardsville, Union Co. TN (his father b. KY, his mother b. TN). Calvin enlisted in Union army at Louisville KY in Oct. 1863. Served in Co. G, 2nd Cavalry. Wounded and in hospital in Stevens AL in March and April 1863, New Albany MS, McPherson USA Gen. Hospital Vicksburg MS June 1865. Discharged Vicksburg June 3, 1865. Family moved about and Calvin died in Malden MO on 1 Dec. 1889. When Julia died on 30 Nov. 1890 her sister Harriet and her mother Mary Butler Ashby were with her. Buried Kegley Cemetery, off HWY 141, Clay Co. AR.
