Butlers in AL/SC/TN/VA
Hi fellow Butlers,
I am seeking information on the Butler family in Alabama and progressing back to a direct ancestor in Virginia.I have been off the board for about 10 years, and I am sure that there is some 'new blood' willing to share their information.
My grandmother was Delura Mae Butler Dowda (Hanson)d. 1963, Palatka, Fl.She was daughter of Thomas Jefferson Butler and Josephine Dover. Her grandfather was Claiborne J. Butler who fought in the Civil War.
Grandmother was an only child but had 7 children who lived to adulthood.I think that Thomas J. Butler had a significant number of siblings: Franklin K., Joseph J., Mary A., Francis H., Samantha, James H., Parly(?), Zebigeda (I believe she was also known as "Martha", Lorena, and William D.(Some names are spelled differently in other places).
My grandmother was born May 9(?), 1880 in Section, Alabama.Family lived in a place called "Sand Mountain".
Hope someone can help me fill-in the blanks.
Thank you,
Delura Dowda
