Jacquilyn,

Glad I could help with Almary.
My great grandmother gave us some old family pictures and she had my mother write down names of her relatives that she could remember. I was 16 at the time and wish I had asked a lot questions. She knew her grandparents names were Reed Simpson and Lovica Butler. I just assumed that Lovica was the daugter of Isaac and Elizabeth because they lived with Hayden in 1850. I knew my gr gr grandmother was Izora Simpson and that she was born in Illinois.
I checked the census images on ancestry and in 1850 Lovica's name was hard to read, the L wasn't real clear but it was spelled "Lavica". In the 1865 Allen County KS it was spelled "Lovicy". It was spelled "Lovica" on Izora's death certificate. I found out through land and census records that Reed was "John Reed Simpson".

The obituary of Izora says that as a child her family moved from Ill. to Dade County, Mo, which is where my Martin family lived in the 1840s and 50s. The Martin and Simpson families are pretty close in Allen County, Kansas 1860 & 65 census. I imagine that is how John Buck Martin met Izora, he was 14 years older than her. Can you imagine? He probably watched her grow up and then married her. Wish I knew the story on that one.

I just realized a few months ago that Almary had been married to John Butler. I only knew about Peter Caress.
Anyway, like I said I'm not positve that Lovica is Elizabeth and Isaac's daughter but I am sure she was a Butler and when I found her living with Hayden I knew they had to be related. She was born Dec. 15, 1827 in Kentucky.

My Nancy Martin didn't go to Alabama that I know of. All of her children lived and died in Kansas. In 1880 she lived with John and Izora. The last record I have of her is the 1885 Census of Kansas. She is living with her son George Dallas Martin and his young daughters after his wife died. In 1900 George was living with John and Izora south of Coffeyville, Ks and Nancy wasn't with them. John and Izora are buried in Elmwood cemetery, Coffeyville, Ks. There is a Nancy Martin buried there as well. It only gives her death year of 1897 and and age 79, which would be right for her.
