Hey, Jon, Maybe we have thrown up our hands and decided we will all just claim descendancy from Thomas Pincerna and be done with it ! "I am related to the Plantagent kings of England, Charlemagne, Erik the Red and the Butlers of Ormonde". Bah !

I sure can't find proof as well of a John Butler of this line, as you have noted. Two days ago, I figured out that my blood is no living proof of a John Butler of this line--though I am still proof of one somewhere .

I consider your research to be the "gold standard" of Butler research so I used that as a starting point to look at the DNA data and compare it the genealogical data submitted by DNA participants.

It took awhile to puzzle out that info via the Butler DNA site. Most everyone on there submits a first known ancestor who , at best, generally gets back to the 18th century. Sometimes it takes awhile to try to synchronize the DNA data on that site with the known genealogical data.

I managed to identify what I thought at the time was descendant of a Butler of your line via your posted family tree information on Ancestry.com. I recall that descendant to be Joseph W Butler, who, on the Butler DNA site is member M0040. Unfortunately, when I try to access M0040's genealogical data today I get a "page not found" error.

Accordingly, I can't get back to your tree on ancestry either. Because I have not posted an ancestor who connects us, I can't get back to your tree via the usual method. Ancestry doesn't seem to want to let me search by your owner name, but insists that I search by a data person...and I only get about 107,000 public trees with the name Joseph W. Butler. Sigh.

Anyway, I will continue to go back and try to replicate what I did. At present, though, the person I believe to be your Butler's DNA ("Butler of Droitwich") subject M0040 is in DNA Group B and my known relative is M0036, who is classified in group H. So basically it appears that my Butlers and the Butlers of Droitwich may have a common ancestor in Neolithic times but not a whole lot later than that.

In other words, Thomas Pincerna it is...

Meanwhile, I am going to try to develop an easier protocol for connecting the DNA results with genealoical results.

I'll post again here as soon as I get this all down a little better.
