The information posted on RootsWeb leads me back to a John Butler married to Ann Williams. John was born in Prince William county Virginia about 1733. His parents were thought to be William Butler b. about 1707 in King George Co. VA and his wife was a Mildred Lewis. If that is true, this leads me to Thomas Butler of Kent Island, MD who was born in Essex England about 1603, a descendant of Robert Le Boteler the Kings steward.

That being said, this family is related to the Irish Butlers because Robert Le Boteler was the brother of Hervey Walter, the father of Theobald FitzWalter, the First Chief Butler of Ireland.
