Isle Kent was first settled as an Indian Trading Post by William Claiborne/Clyborne later Capt and Sec of State for VA. He married the sister(Elizabeth) of Capt John Boteler/Butler and Thomas Boteler/Butler who he brought to Kent Island to run his affairs. I would recomend to you the following Ref: The Flowering of the Maryland Palatinate; by Harry Wright Newman. There were actually by 1640 TWO THOMAS BUTLERS on Isle of Kent, both receiveing land grants, with a wife and 2ea children and one bringing 3ea servants. I suspect the brother of Claibornes wife had the servants. But no distinction has been discovered, as yet... Both Capt John Butler/Boteler who was not married and no issue; the court recd states his brother had returned to England. Thomas Butler must have returned by 1640 to receive a land grant. He and his wife were also dead by 1650. Where an Edward Thompson is tasked with being the guardian of 5ea sons of Thomas Butler and his wife. That would be pg 336 of the above REF: Thomas Butler's wife was named Joane NOT JANE. Jane was the wife of Edward Thompson, not the widow of said Butler/Boteler. A 2ed ref: CAVALIERS AND PIONEERS; Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants 1628-1666; by Nell Marion Nugent. Vol ONE!! pg 207...
