The aforementioned, Charles St. John Butler, of Tennesse is lineally descended from Zachariah Dingley Gray Taylor Butler, of Sullivan County, Tennessee. HIs father was an Irish emigrant. He emigrated from Ireland to the U.S. during the 1st half of the 1700's.
Zachariah Butler of Sullivan County, TN was a Revolutionary War solider in the 13th North Carolina Regiment, who fought at the battle of Guilford, Court House. Zachariah Butler was b. 27 June 1754 and m. "ante" 1790 to Elizabeth Driskoll [sic], who was from the state of Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Butler nee Driskoll [sic], died in 1802. After which, Zachariah Butler was married for a 2nd time to Rachel Garrison, and d. 18 Jan. 1836.
Zachariah Butler's grandson was named Mathew Moore Butler, who was b. 24 March 1838 and m. Mary Theresa, dau. of William R. Dulaney of Blountville, TN. They were m. on 2 March 1869 and d. 12 August 1913. His children were as follows:(1) Charles St. John Butler, who is mentioned at the top of this message, (2) Lorena, who m. John I. Cox of Sullivan County, TN. Lorena was b. 18 Feb. 1870 and married John Cox on 16 October 1889, and (3) Carrie Butler, who was b. 7 August 1873 and married Frank C. WRIGHT, of Baltimore, Maryland on 4 October 1893.
