It may be of interest to those following the Lt. William ancestry that his Y-Dna has been found. His haplotype is R1a. One can follow Lt. William's descendancy 10 generations to Elmer Ellsworth Butler (the author of "Butlers and Kinsfolk"). The book shows the author's relationship to Lt. William. Elmer's grand-son was tested and found to be haplotype R1a. The Y-Dna is passed down virtually unchanged from father to son for 100's of years. Therefore Eric Butler's Y-Dna is the same as that of all his grand-fathers, including Lt. William. Another author, Frank Osgood Butler, is also related to Lt. William. His Butler male ancestry also bears the same Y-Dna and R1a haplotype. At the present time no one seems to know the names of Lt. William's parents or if he came from England or Ireland. Perhaps knowing his Y-Dna and R1a haplotype will be a help to researchers. Notify Administrator about this message?
