A biography of Lt Col Edmond Butler is included in "Progressive Men of the State of Montana". On a trip to Europe, Dec 1891, Lt Col Butler was taken ill with appendicitis and died within 24 hours. His body was taken to Omaha, NE, and buried with military honors beside the body of his wife who had died some years before.

Brief biographies of his sons, Edmond, b. 1860, Brooklyn, NY; Albert Butler, Thomas Butler, Horace Butler, and Charles Dana Butler, are included at the end of Lt Col Emond Butler's biography.
