If Martin was born in Edgefield Co SC then it is possible that he was the son of Jesse PITTS. It is my understanding that the PITTS were in SC before the arrival of the BUTLER and KARR/CARR folks. All were in SC during the American Revolution. Have you tried to see if the local libraries in Edgefield Co SC have a list of volunteers who can help you look into local records to prove or deny the connection of these families ? The old land records will definitely show the names of the neighbors with boundaries to land of your PITTS in Edgefield Co SC. Militia and military records for the American Revolution and the War of 1812 will also put all of these folks near or closer to your PITTS. Petit and grand jury minutes will name names as well as dates that will name your ancestors. Church minutes and other records pertaining to cemeteries that will help you put them together. I think you are on the right track considering some of these families are following each other into N. E. GA and later move into the Indian Land Cessions in the various land lotteries. Tax records are in print that show name, location, date, and page so you can log the families during the 1789-1819 years leading up to the 1820 GA census and you can also look at the SC tax registers as well. Remember all of your ancestors left a paper trail. All of them no matter the year. You and your fellow genealogists just have to look at the right trail. Where you see breaks in the record you will always find them with honorable mention in someone else records. Notify Administrator about this message?
