Do you suspect that your Charles Butler was from Montgomery Co. NC?Could he have moved back to NC by 1818?I am trying to find an explanation for temporary movement of the Joel A. Butler family from Carroll Co. TN to Hanson, Hopkins Co. KY about 1877-1881, other than the post-war movements characteristic of the time and region.Joel b. 1846 was a son of Calvin J. Butler and Martha Jane Hicks who res. Carroll Co. TN until 1863 and then Fayette Co. IL; Joel was the only sibling to remain behind.Calvin J. Butler likely born in Montgomery Co. NC and moved when young with many other Butlers to Carroll Co. TN; his parents are unproven, although one slight possibility is a Charles Butler who owned land 1818 in Montgomery Co. NC adj. to Reuben Queen.Per an 1818 deed Reuben Queen (who had married Mary Butler, dau. of Elias Butler) sold this land to Tinch Carter; this land was also adj. to Nealy Butler (a son of Elias Butler), unk. Hopkins, and unk. Hurt; deed witnessed by Thos. Butler (prob. the Thomas Butler who d. 1841 in Montgomery Co. NC).Did your Charles Butler leave land in Hopkins Co. KY to any descendants which might later have come into the possession of Joel A. Butler?Yes, this is a long shot.
