John, Mary, Jane, Anderson, Isaac, Hanover and Caroline Cos VA
The Library of Virginia website is unbelievable, and many of their manuscripts are online or described.
Our oldest proven Butler, Isaac, is in there, for example, with 5 different papers from 1831-1844.
More importantly, the bio says he (correctly identified as the husband of Nancy P. Cobb Chiles) is the son of
JOHN BUTLER (1723-1810) and his second wife MARY BAUGHAN (died in 1843).
We did not know this!
John Butler's will from 1810 is at the Lib, not online--I've asked my sister-in-law to look at it (she's in Richmond).
Could this be the John Butler, whose first wife was Jane Anderson (acc. to many gedcoms) who had Anderson Butler, bo. 1753?
Would love to compare notes,
