I noticed something interesting about this web site.

Although this family immigrated from Galway Ireland to La Rochelle France in 1650, the arms found on that page suggest a relation to the Boteler families of Sharnbrook Bedfordshire and Essex who descend from the brother (Robert le Boteler) of Hervey Walter de Clare II who's son Theobald FitzWalter is the progenitor of the Ormonde Butler families of Ireland. The paintings displayed also have a remarkable resemblance to the Ormonde Butler family. It is highly probably that they followed the Norman tradition of the first born son being the sole heir leaving the siblings to find their own path through life.

At least some of the English and French Butler families are connected to the Ormonde Butler families.
