I was born in Providence, R.I. in 1941 and a son of John (Giovanni) Butera born in Casteldaccia in 1905. He came to this country at the age of one with two sisters (Maria & Domenica) and had 5 other brothers and sisters born in Rhode Island. My father passed away in 1978 and I visited Casteldaccia in 1985 with my wife. We visited the Butera's who operated the liquor distributors in town who provided us with a case of Butera wine. (For your information their are hundreds of Buteras listed in the phone book in the Casteldaccia/Bagheria area We visited his mother's side (Mancuso) there as well who treated us extremely well. His mother's side owned collectively a children's clothing store in town as well as a 7000 lemon orchard and possessed ownership in a co-op for processing and packaging lemons sent all over the world. Suggest you visit Casteldaccia and and all of Sicily if you haven't. We are probably some how related because when my father arrived many of his relatives (Butera's) settled in Long Island/Brooklyn area and one operated a barber shop in Grand Central Station. Let me know if this is consistent with any recollections your family have passed on.
I have resided in Florida since 1988 and currently work as an engineer for the State of Florida.
