Hi all! Let me introduce myself. I`m Juliana Butera and I have been researching my families roots for about 10 years now since I met a Saudi family in Boston and thought to myself``Wow , these people look like my family! I wonder if we are related!``Since that time I have been researching like mad trying to find out if we are and where exactly we come from . Needless to say, I have found some very important information regarding our roots. It seems after intense research I discovered that many Butera`s want to claim either Spanish or Greek origin in the name Butera and seem to ignore the obvious Arab / North African roots of our Familia di Buteerah . I will let you all welcome me then I will be happy to share my findings. By the way, My family came here in early 1900 via New Orleans Port in their escape of Mussolini and poverty . They resided mostly in Cefalu and Polermo. Salvatore Butera was my great grandfathers name and they struggled picking cotton when they first got here until he could afford a monkey to entertain with on Canal Street. Then finally he got the money to buy a boat to start his fishing business which then allowed him to buy his first shrimping boat and the rest is history!I look forward to sharing more with you all and look forward to meeting more of my Familia di Buteerah!
