Butchers - Indian raid in 1700's
According to family tradition my ancestor John Butcher emigrated from England to Virginia. He settled in Hampshire Co.,VA, married, and had a son John Butcher, Jr., b. 7-30-1742.According to the tradition John, Sr. was killed in an Indian raid when John, Jr. was about 6 mo. old. There were supposedly other families in this raid as well, with only one man surviving. The wife of John, Sr. is supposed to have married a man named Huse or Hughes and raised John, Jr.John, Jr. married Sarah Conard on 12-2-1776, ancestor of Thones Kunders, one of the original settlers of Germantown, PA. Does anyone know anything about this raid?Might this be the same raid Samuel Butcher and his son were in?Does anyone know anything about John, Sr.?Who was his wife?Any help would be greatly appreciated!
