Hi Janie, I mentioned the 'alternate' spelling to my dad, and he told me that in Jackson Co., ILL (where he grew up) there were Bouchers and Butchers. The Bouchers were of French origin, and the pronunciation was totally different than Butcher. We also checked the online information from Jackson Co., ILL on rootsweb, which had an article reprint that gave us a brother to George, John Butcher. A distant relative gave us a third brother, Samuel. She gave me the following additional information on George, which I will try to get documentation on. George Butcher b. Aug. 10, 1786 Warren Co., KY d. Jan 4, 1866 buried in Tower Grove Cemetary, Jackson Co. ILL wife: Mary Sorrels b. abt 1801 NC George and Mary were married on May 24, 1821 in Jackson Co., ILL. Children I listed came from George's probate, which my dad got a copy of. Hope some of this helps.
