Hi, I wondered if you were referring to your own identity, family history, or the general knowledge of the Bustos name. In New Mexico, many original settlers by surname of Bustillos eventually had their name shortened to Bustos, either by ? accident or intentionally.
I had an ancestor whose family name through his father was Ruiz de Valdez ( birth name in Spain), but then two generations down, his grandson changed his own Mother's name of de Pas Bustillos Y Ontiveros to Juan Bustillos Valdez, followed by his son using Jose Bustos, and three generations later, my own great grandmother was also using "Bustos". Could you check previous Texas census records of your family to see if "Bustos" was correct? LD
