I am making application to have Bushfield Manor registered with the National Historic Register and the Virginia Landmarks. The present house was renovated in 1914. The former style was antebellum. We are not able to find any evidence within the walls of the present house of a Bushrod home. Bushfield was shelled by the British in 1814, but I have not found documentation that the house was burned or destroyed. Should any of the descendants of the Bushrod family have information as to the size, style, location, etc. of the Bushrod home, I would appreciate your sharing it for the documentation. The cemetery is still in existence; the ledgers of John Bushrod and Thomas Bushrod were recently repaired. Three additional stones of children still remain. The Washington stones were removed early in the 1900s. Descendants are welcome to visit the graveyard. For those of you who have never seen a picture of Bushfield, you can view it at http://www.frankhardy.com/. Go to waterfront estates and click on Bushfield. I would welcome any sources of information on the manor house. Thanks Judith Conner Notify Administrator about this message?
