I don’t know if you have already found your information re: MARY BUSHNELL & JOSEPH BUTLER at this late date, but I will post what I have here for future researchers:

See the article entitled “Joseph Butler of Wethersfield and His Wives” by Meredith B. Colkert, Jr.; American Genealogist, Vol. 13, no. 4, p. 218-221.

JOSEPH BUTLER married (first) MARY GOODRICH, daughter of SARAH MARVIN and WILLIAM GOODRICH of Wethersfield, CT.

They had the following children:

1.        Charles Butler; b. about 1680; d. 25 September 1711; m. Susanna Williams
2.        Gershom Butler, b. about 1685; d. 1 May 1765; m. Mary Deming
3.        Richard Butler, b. (perhaps) about 1687; d. 1757; m. 15 December 1725, Sarah Goodrich (his 1st cousin, d/o Sarah Treat and Ephraim Goodrich)
4.        Joseph Butler, Jr.; d. 20 March 1712

The date of MARY GOODRICH’S death is unknown; the early literature that gives it as 1 June 1735 is incorrect, as this is the date of death for his SECOND wife.

JOSEPH BUTLER married (second) MARY BUSHNELL, daughter of SARAH SCRANTON and JOHN BUSHNELL of Saybrook, CT, and widow of WILLIAM MILLER, JR. of Glastonbury. MARY BUSHNELL had six children by her first husband.

She and JOSEPH BUTLER had the following children:

1.       Mary Butler, b. about 1707; d. January 1795; m. David Edwards
2.       Benjamin Butler, b. about 1711; m. 5 December 1734, Thankful Sage
3.       Joseph Butler, Jr., b. about 1713, d. before December 7, 1740 (unmarried)
4.       Charles Butler, b. about 1715, d. June 16, 1765; m. (1) 19 November 1740, Jerusha Goodrich (a 1st cousin-once-removed, supposedly d/o Gideon Goodrich) m. (2) Lucy Bulkeley

JOSEPH BUTLER was born, about 1632; and died 10 December 1732 in Wethersfield, CT. He was the son of Deacon Richard Butler (immigrant) of the Wethersfield, CT.

MARY BUSHNELL was born 20 February 1672/3, in Saybrook, Middlesex Co., CT; died 1 June 1735; and is buried in the Green Cemetery of Glastonbury, CT, with her first husband, WILLIAM MILLER, JR., who died 22 August 1705.

Besides the article cited above, these statements are verified by WILLIAM MILLER’S probate record that gives administration to “Joseph Butler of Wethersfield and Mary, his wife who was widow and relict to the said deceased.” See also internment records of the Green Cemetery of Glastonbury and “The Bushnell Genealogy” (1945) by George Eleazer Bushnell.

Hope this helps.

Patti
