Chris, My father visited Bushnell, Florida in l988 and wrote the following notes about it. The community came into existance in 1885 with the establishment of a post office. It was named in honor of J.W. Bushnell who surveyed the route of Florida Railway and Navigation Company Railroad. First public school - 1886, first cemetary -1888, first Masonic Lodge - 1895, incorporated in 1911. Court House moved to Bushnell in 1912. There was, and may still be available, a photographic essay by Doris Valentine - cost $6 plus $2 for handling. Write to: Sumter County Historical Society, P.O. Box 1095, Bushnell, Florida, 33513. I checked the Bushnell Gen. Book and found the following info: John William Bushnell #2473 was born 12/1/1851. He was one of 3 children of Frederick Senter Bushnell #1249 - born in Baton Rouge, LA @ 1825? and probably died in Arcadia, Florida - date unknown - was living in l910. John William had a brother Charles and sister Ella. John's father, Frederick's father was Charles #545. Charles's father was Samuel #267. Samuel's father was Samuel #119, Samuel's father was Samuel #58. Samuel's father was Samuel #27 who was the son of Francis #3. Hope there is something of interest here for you. Happy Hunting!
