I have just recently received a lot of research that my mother's cousin had been working on for about 15 years. I do not know if there is a link, but my ggrandmother was named Mary Eliza Bushnell. I have a newspaper clipping of her being the first baby born at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Adams Co., ILL. We were always told her parents were Harris. This clipping states that Mrs.Mary E. McCoy (she married McCoy) was born Bushnell named after a close friend of Mrs. McCoy's mother. According to this clipping she was at the time the newspaper printed 77 years old and a Texas rancher. She and my ggrandfather Henry McCoy moved to Texas in 1920 according to this newspaper clipping. I really think it odd that she would inherit someones last name from a close friend, however, this is how it has been researched. I am hoping to get in touch with my mother's cousin soon.
