Have researched 'Bushey" name in Ontario and Quebec(National Archives-Ottawa) Census reveals numerous phonetic spellings including Bushe, Busha, Bushia, and Bushea, all English attempts to phoneticize the French Boucher by often illiterate census takers. Name Francis Xavier Boucher spelled Bushey and Boucher in War of 1812 records of (Canadian)Soldiers receiving a pension in 1875. Spelled in all variations above in Canadian and US census records. Members of my family 1874 to present have lived in Quebec, Ontario, Kingston, Erie, Penn., Los Angeles, Florida.
First census of Boucher name in Quebec original habitation around 1640. Boucherville Que., near Montreal named for family with members living there in early 1700's. Very popular name on Canada's East coast Nova Scotia and presumably in states bordering Quebec, Vt, NH, etc.
