Note: George Bush was the first cousin of Obadiah Newcomb Bush the ancestor of President H. W. Bush. His grandparents were Timothy Bush and Deborah House. George Bush graduated from Dartmouth University in 1818 and studied theology at Princeton University. He was a tutor in that school from 1823-1824. He became an ordained Presbyterian minister and served four years as a Christian missionary in Indiana. He found the Presbyterian Church to be too confining and he was terminated in 1828. In 1831 he moved to New York City and became professor of Hebrew language and literature at New York University. That same year his book Life of Mohammed was published. He remained at New York University until 1847 when he became a Swedenborgian and resigned. George Bush was a member of the New Jerusalem Church until his death. His first wife, Anna Byram Condict was the daughter of Dr. Lewis Condict and died 11/9/1827, four days after the birth of her son. She is buried in First Presbyterian Churchyard, Morristown, Morris County, NJ. Mary_____Bush was born ca. 1819 in England and died after 1850. It is not known where Rev. George Bush is buried.
