I've been reviewing my Bush notes and have some more info for you regarding the Sumner Co., TN marriages for Bush members. Please if you can provide marriage data on those marriages for William Bush you cited it would really help!!
There is a lot of confusing data regarding all this but in short, I doubt if the Sumner County marriages were all for "our" William B. Bush.

1. A George Bush md Elizabeth Marlin on 11/27/1806 in Sumner Co. Archibald Marlin was the bondsman. (Marlin's name is important and provides a link to this George Bush and our Bush line but not a clear picture of who is who)

THis above George Bush is too young to be the son of DR. John H. Bush. He was born after his brother William B. Bush most likely about 1798. He is in someway related to our Bush line!

2. William Bush md. Elizabeth Groves on 10/6/1821 in Sumner County. Again, Archibald Marlin was the bondsman!!!! THus this William and the above George are in some way connected through Archibald Marlin. How? THis is 15 years after George's marriage to a Marlin. Might this William be a son of George by an earlier marriage??? I don't know if this is "our" William B. Bush later in Missouri or not. "Our" William was already in Missouri by 1821. He may have gone back to TN to marry but would like some proof they are the same man.

3. William Bush md. Sally Gardner on 7/2/1824 in Sumner Co. No additional data. Don't know if this is "our" William B. Bush or not!

Al 3 above marriages confirmed in Sumner Co. Marriage records. Where did you get the wive named Louisa Powell for William B. Bush and where were they married????

All the above names are found in other Bush data. It gets very sticky but maybe you can shed some light on it. Notice how the same characters and families keep cropping up! Don't get dizzy reading this!

On 8/15/1809 an Isaac Gray md. Jane Marlin with Garrett Gray's consent in Caldwell Co., KY. Isaac was the son of Garrett Gray and the Gray family had been in Laurens/Newberry Co. SC with the Bush family. Garrett Gray died in 1827 in Caldwell Co.. He was the son of Abraham Gray who died in 1791 in Newberry Co., SC and Mary Cannon. (The widow Mary had previously been married to jacob Pennington who died in 1784 in Laurens Co., SC. The Pennington family intermarried with the Micajah Bennett family there and thus was related by marriage to reuben Rowland as well.)

In 1784 Abraham Gray's brother John GRay sold land in Laurens County to George Bush. THis George is the proven father of William Bush who married Mary Thetford in Laurens Co., SC. While this George and William are connected in some way to our DR. John H. Bush there is no proof or clarity of their relationship!!!). THis George Bush had a wife named Elizabeth on deeds selling their SC land.

When Mary Thetford Bush's father Simon Thetford left his will in 1826 in Trigg Co., KY he named Capt. Isaac Gray and James Banister as his Executors. Recall Simon Thetford was the father in law of William Bush, s/o George formerly of Laurens Co., SC. I believe George and Elizabeth Bush went to Sumner Co., TN (later notes)

Simon Thetford's son William Thetford married Lydia Gray, d/o Garrett Gray while Lydia Gray's brother Isaac Gray md. Jane Marlin (in 1809 in Caldwell Co).

Isaac Gray died 7/31/1849 in Caldwell Co. The 1850 Caldwell County census records his widow Jane as head of household at age 65 and born in Ireland (ca 1785?) The same census lists an Isaac Gray age 28 and born in TN (ca 1822). He had a wife named Martha age 25 born in KY and a unidentified Linn Boyd Gray age 20 also born in KY living with him. The family of William Bush and Mary Thetford also used the name Linn Boyd!!

Are still with me?? Not sure I am. I cannot get this all figured out and there are still more questions than answers!!

Recall that Dr. John H. Bush was recorded in Sumner Co. court records from 1800-1810 although he owned land in Caldwell Co., KY. He does not appear in Caldwell records for this period. He apparently was residing in Sumner Co. but what why not in Caldwell CO? Then in 1810 he suddenly disappears from Sumner Co. He still owned the land in Caldwell County and appears on tax lists there with what appears to be his brother in law residing on his land - Micajah Bennett Rowland.

Here is a VERY strange land swap in 1810 that adds further to the mystery!

In 1810 a George and Elizabeth Bush sold land in Caldwell County to a William Jones of Sumner Co. and at the same time William Jones sold land in Sumner Co. to George Bush of Caldwell Co. ??????? Was this the same George and Elizabeth Bush formerly in Laurens Co. SC land records??? Why the apparent swap??? We know both parties were connected to all tose named previously here. Isaac Gray witnessed the first swap in Caldwell Co and Archibald marlin withnessed the second in Sumner Co!!!!

But wait! Reuben Rowland's son Lewis Rowland (the brother of Mary Rowland Bush) had 2 daughters who married with the Gray family in Caldwell County.
1. William Jones md. Lucinda Rowland in 1830 Caldwell Co.
2. Charles Jones md. Anna Rowland there in 1821.

A Henry Rowland married Rachel Gray in Caldwell Co. in 1815. Cannot confirm this Henry's relationship to our Reuben Rowland but he did have a son named Henry.

I cannot actually dispute that the Sumner County marriages you named for William B. Bush in Sumner Co. are not correct. I have no doubt they are related to our Bush line but wonder about it being our William B. Bush.

You also named as William B. Bush's wives Louisa Powell and Sally Gardner (in 1824).

Reuben Rowland's nephew, Robert Ewing Rowland married a Rebecca Gardner on 2/5/1855 in Graves Co., KY. Robert E. Rowland descended from Reuben's brother Henry Rowland who died in 1773 in Bedford Co., VA. It's not impossible that this is the same Gardner family marrying with one of our Bush's. But why would William B. Bush go back to Sumner County for yet another wife??? Old ties??

You also mentioned a Louisa Powell as one of William B. Bush's wives. Again, not impossible but what proof is there? And again, yet another link to the Rowland family perhaps?

Reuben Rowland appears (no proof) to be the brother of a THomas Rowland who married Mildred McCoy Lewis of Virginia. THomas Rowland died later in Edgefield Co., SC. THomas and Mildred's daughter Miriam (Mima) married a Ransom Powell. ???????

Check out Ransom Powell Bush on this genforum!

Sorry I can only dump all this data on you for now. I haven't yet figured it all out and hope maybe you can help! I'll check those other websites you gave me. Thanks!!
