Using Ancestry I found Dennis and his brother Lewis. They are consistently listed as black. Therefore, they are not likely to appear in census records prior to 1870. I did look at the 1870 census and they lived next to a Robert Bush (born 1810) who was white. Dennis and Lewis may have been Robert's slaves prior to emancipation. Good luck.
