Hello all, According to Methodist Records of Baltimore City, MD, Vol. II, East Baltimore Station Marriages Solemnized by Rev. Henry Furlong, Page 55: "Cain Bush Married Elizabeth Renshaw July 9 1937." Here's what I know so far about the couple. The book above indicates they had a daughter Isabella born in January 1839, baptized 25 Dec 1842. The 1850 census for Baltimore, Baltimore Co., MD has the following persons in the household: Cain Bush, 46, laborer, b. MD Elizabeth, 44, b. MD Isabella, 11, b. MD Isadora, 2, b. MD Ann Raddish, 77, b. MD Baltimore City Directories have the following information: 1840, Bush, Cain, Lombard st w of Market 1842, Bush, Cain, labourer, Lombard st e of Bond 1847, Bush, Cain, Laborer, 230 e Pratt 1847-48, Bush Kane, watchman, 204 e Pratt st. 1853-54, Bush, Cain, watchman, 230 e Pratt After that last entry, Cain Bush no longer appears, but the directories have: 1856-57, Bush, Elizabeth, 206 e Pratt 1858-59, Bush, Elizabeth, 235 e Pratt That is the last entry I find for Elizabeth in the City Directories. Given the Pratt street addresses, I believe that Cain Bush died in the mid-1850s. I cannot find Elizabeth or the children in Baltimore in the 1860 census. It's possible that the family relocated. If Cain Bush did die, maybe Elizabeth remarried. On the other hand, I found the following death notice in the Baltimore Sun in 1861: "On the 23d instant, after a long and painful illness which she bore with Christian faith and submission, Mrs. ELIZABETH M. BUSH, in the 55th year of her age. [Somerset county, (Md.) papers copy.] Her relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral, on to-morrow (Sunday) afternoon, at three o'clk, from her late residence, No. 241 East Pratt street." The 1806 birth year calculated from the 1850 census matches the one based on the age in the death notice. Again, the address is on Pratt St. So, is this Cain Bush's wife or a different Elizabeth? Then we have the reference to Somerset papers. If the obituary refers to Elizabeth Renshaw Bush, was she born in Somerset Co? Could she be a sister of Lemuel Renshaw who was b. 5 Aug 1807 and who settled in Baltimore? Does anyone know the parents of this Cain Bush? What happened to the various family members after the 1850 census? Did they move out of the Baltimore area? Also, what is the relationship of Ann Raddish to the family? Any help would be appreciated.
