Linda,
Just adding another mention of Abe Bush decendents in North Carolina and it might answer post 6583 by Lois in 2003.
From "History of Kentucky-Volume 3", page 476;
"Mr. SAMUEL STONE BUSH was born at Louisville, February 12,1864, son of SAMUEL STONE BUSH & Cornelia ( Wheat) Bush.
His family has been one of distinction in Kentucky for several generations.His paternal grandparents were ELCANAH BUSH and MARY (STONE)BUSH.His grandfather (Elkanah) was a native of NORTH CAROLINA and was a pioneer settler at Boonesboro, Kentucky. He farmed there and later moved to a farm in Sumner County, Tennessee.The maternal grandfather of SAMUEL STONE BUSH was Judge Zachariah Wheat, a native Kentuckian, and a distinguished lawyer and jurist...SAMUEL STONE BUSH, SR., was born at Boonesboro, Kentucky in 1830 and died in 1877."
I post this here because it is another mention of decendents of Abe Bush being in North Carolina, "Capt. Billy" Bush had a son Elkanah and the name appears several times in this Bush family.SAMUEL STONE BUSH, SR. was born 1830 in Kentucky, his father ELKANAH BUSH born in North Carolina at least prior to 1810 and maybe as early as 1770 (a guestimate).Who was this ELKANAH'S father????
Was "Capt. Billy" Bush,& wife, in North Carolina before he settled in Kentucky? Many related Bush families left Virginia at about the same time, "Capt. Billy's" group settled in what is now Clark County, Ky, my ancestor's for whatever reason went further to what is now Barren County, Ky., did some of this group first "settle" in the Carolina's for a brief time before moving up to Davidson/Sumner Co.'s Tennessee? (If so, why so??) If they were there only a short time they would not have much of a paper trail, but maybe land records of some sort, and then there is the issue of boundries as to what area the land belonged to at the time. (We have an Abraham Bush born 1770 in the Carolina's as well as his children & as far as I know, this Abe's parents remain unknown.)
Just a thought,
Georgi
