Linda,
Speaking of cans of worms, I am working very hard to find the parents of one of my ancestors and for years I have been blocked by an iron curtain. (worse than a brick wall)
JOHN W. RAWLINS was bn. in Delaware about 1830/1831, in 1849 he married Priscilla E. White, 1850 they are on the census of Sussex Co., Delaware, 1860 they are on census of Somerset Co., Maryland, 1870 the family is in the city of Chester, Delaware Co., Pa.John died 1879, he is buried in Chester Rural Cemetery.Have the marriage record, but it is just a minister's return, no names other than the bride & groom, no one else on census records that fit as his parents, cemetery record only mentions his son who probably made arrangements. There seems to be only one book (written about 100 yrs ago) that touches on the subject of Rawlins-Rollins families of Delaware/Maryland area, and from searching records, I have found the book to have many errors and omissions, it fails to mention at least 10 males in the family who were married, had male chidren who might have been the ancestor of my JOHN W. RAWLINS.(I know this is not the Rawlins forum but thought I would mention him since he was somewhat in your neck of the woods, maybe you can find his parents for me. :))
I have seen the family names Pennington, King, Bush, in some very early records of Maryland and Delaware and in many early records for the area it mentions that they were from Virginia, usually deeds and probate records.I also read an article that said there were many men from Maryland who fought in the Rev. War in the Carolina's.I still wonder if some of that group in SC got there by way of the Rev. War and then moved to Sumner/Davidson Co.'s Tennessee because of the North Carolina Land Grants that were for land in that area.(Need to study more about the war & land grants, or hope that a Rev. War expert on the area can quickly explain it.) The common names of George, John, William Bush make research more difficult, have you ever "googled" for George Bush??It appears that your JOHN BUSH was somehow related to ABNER BUSH in Sumner Co., TN., and it also looks like there was a relationship between ABNER BUSH and MOSES BUSH in Sumner.I keep looking for any new record that might identify this Abner and Moses that would connect them to a family, there are possibly marriage and/or baptismal records for some of these people SOMEWHERE!As for Abigail Bush in Laurens,SC-there was probably a male Bush in the household at one time, the land she lived on was a grant or purchased, and maybe eventually sold. Might there be another male Bush in the land records for the area that she lived in?
Georgi
