Linda,
If you don't want your rain, please send it down here.No rain in more than a fortnight and none forcasted, everything dry as a bone. That hurts the things that we WANT to grow, but the wild picky vines that grow 100 feet every 24 hours are doing just fine.
I was looking at records of Kentucky marriages and saw your JOHN H. BUSH m: Elizabeth Jennings March 16,1815. Couldn't help but notice the record just above it for Burt Holman who married Parthenia Lewis a couple of years later in Christian Co. and the witness/security was ARCHIBALD BUCKNER.I decided to do a search for the name Archibald Buckner, and a record came up that is a book titled "History of ALBERMARLE COUNTY, VIRGINIA".
Please keep in mind the records for JOSIAH BUSH in ALBERMARLE being 2 deeds:
Spotsylvania County Va Deed Book J, p. 313-December 26, 1773, JOSIAH BUSH & SARAH his wife, of ALBERMARLE CO., sell to Wm. Mastin of Spots. Co. for 17 lbs 10 shillings, 125 acres in Spots. Co.Witness: Jno. Sanders, Benjamin Craig, Geo. Tureman.
From ALBERMARLE CO. records- dated 1779, JOSIAH BUSH sells land on waters of Priddy's Creek and Blue Run, deed to WILLIAM SIMMS.(Josiah's father Philip in his Will dated 1771 left JOSIAH 100 acres on the "South side of Blue Run".)
The book "History of Albermarle Co., Va." gives information about early families by name and the couple of paragraphs about the DURRETT family states that Mr. Durrett was married to "Elizabeth, daughter of Isaac Davis, and his children John D., Isaac W., Thomas, Davis, Robert D., Mildred the wife of JAMES SIMMS, Susan the wife of Thomas Garth, Elizabeth the wife of James Watts, Sarah the wife of John Early, and FRANCES the wife of ARCHIBALD BUCKNER".
The Durretts purchased land from the TERRELL family in Albermarle Co. It mentions that one of the Durretts may have been married to an ABIGAIL TERRELL in the 1780's but the book addresses it as if that is questionable. (Always looking for an Abigail that may have married a Bush)
The book also tells about the the LEWIS & TERRELL family purchasing land together, and has a bit of info on the DUKE famil.
Also in the book is a paragraph about the SUMPTER family of Albermarle Co., they also owned land on Priddy's Creek. In
1779 they conveyed land to CHARLES BUSH.
We know that JOSEPH BUSH & JOSIAH BUSH are sons of Philip BUsh and that a number of Philip's children went to Ky. with their bro "Capt Billy".In the records of the Bush Church that they established in Kentucky are records of a CHARLES BUSH but not in any context that identifies his parents. There is a CHARLES BUSH in early Barren Co., KY records that is not of my direct line and I believe he is another one of their cousins and very well this same CHARLES BUSH.
So many of these surnames twisted up with the BUSH family from Virginia to the Carolina's to KY and TN.Your GEORGE BUSH must have been part of a group that went to SC, who did he travel with? (the book says that the Sumpter family moved to Charleston about 1790's and that is why we have a fort by that name.) If George Bush was born about 1750, and in Virginia, might not he appear in some Virginia record about 1770's?Josiah Bush born supposedly about 1720-1730's, he is of the generation old enough to be George's father!Josiah had headed south where he died in Washington Co. in 1780, we know that they had at least one son name Philip, any more children for Josiah? How about the sons of Josiah's many brothers? Are they all documented or are some of them still "loose" and unknown?
As to laughing at your Yankee origins, I would laugh with you not at you.Any number of my Northern friends have at times said that they are sure they have no relatives from the South, and they say it in such a way, with their face kind of pinced up, that one knows they find the idea distastful. And then there are some of my Southern friends who swear they have no blood connection to Yankees and that the mere idea of it is akin to learning that they have contracted the bubonic plague. All I can say is that they haven't done their genealogy. My Mama's family goes back to 1670's Massachusetts and Daddy's back to 1650's Virginia, they all started out in England, and we all get along fine. (even with the Scots,Dutch,Swedes & Irish mixed in.)
