My Deah Twisted Cousin:
Yes, indeed. It would have to be an extremely convoluted and twisted way in which ah could keep mah Southren pride and still admit bein' kin to a Yankee.
But as mah pappy said - one must "rise to the occasion" always. So, as ah embrace you on the one hand, I still raise toast always with the othah handto that mahvelous example of Southren manhood - Robert E. Lee. As long as ah do them both at the same time I can admit bein' kin to a Yankee. And although mah family tree leans heavily in the direction of the Old South, they is a few branches that lean to the Nawth. (Bluuush - so embarrassin')
I do recollect my pappy sayin' that his grandpa knew a few of those B/I/S/ people in the early daze, and they sure did talk funny, but they wuz real good at learnin' Southren talk from the very beginning. Musta been them Southren Belles who taught 'em so well. It couldn't have been the othah way aroun'.
I understand your dilemma of not being able to communicate well with your Southren cousins due to language difficulties, and believe if you will ask Miss Geawgi to seed Cousin Billy Bob your way after she has received my message from him, he will be able to translate between yourself and the Southren branch of the family. When talkin' to Cousin Billy Bob it will be helpful if you stuff that pretty li'l ol mouth of yours with Cawnbread first and then he will understand you perfectly.
Thank you for your acknowledgement of bein' kin even though you is a Yankee, but I will not be able to share family information with you on those Nawthern branches because many years ago pappy, Jimmie Joe, Festus Fred and Billy Bob were together and had a bit too much Mint Julep. The results were disastrous and all the family's Nawthern records were mysteriously burned. So sorry. But I know we is kin because I had seen them before the burnin' took place.
I have been havin' trouble with my cheek lately so I must say bye for now and y'all do come again. (My tongue seems to be stuck in my cheek. Some Mint Julep will loosin' it up !)
Affectionately, from Yoah Very Southren Cousin
Miss Dixie
