Jan,
Received information today from that nice lady in Kentucky and she sent interesting items for Zenas/Zenus/Zenith BUSH.
Logan Co., Kentucky Surveyors Book B, 1797-1803
page 174, "Surveyed for Zenith Bush 100 acres of land by virtue of an entry made of certificate No. 2823, on the Elk fork of Red River beginning on a White Oak on the Bank of Elk fork near...(more description) Date: 30 Nov. 1798
(She sent explanation of this grant being part of records known as "Grants South of Green River", sometimes called "Headright Claims".Prior to the establishment of Kentucky as a state, Virginia had reserved for her soldiers all the lands in Kentucky south of Green River.Until 1797 no person could enter a survey for this land except a soldier. When Kentucky became a soverign state, the land was opened up to "any person possessed of family and over twenty-one years of age"."Such persons were entitled to not less than 100 acres or more than 200 acres, but must have been bona fide settlers on the land for one year before they came into actual possession".)
ZENAS BUSH appears on the 1800 Taxlist of LOGAN CO., KENTUCKY.
From Logan County, Kentucky Deed Abstracts 1792-1813:

No Bushes on 1810 Census Logan Co., Ky.
1820 census of Logan Co., Ky. shows a NANCY BUSH.
1830 census of Logan Co., Ky there is a NANCY BUSH and A PATERSON BUSH.( I believe a Paterson Bush was a grandson of Josiah Bush who was son of Philip, son of John, son of Abe.)
This ZENUS BUSH must have been born by about 1770's, was a Rev War soldier.Who is this ZENUS BUSH and how does he fit in with the Caswell Co., NC Bushes? Is this the same Zenas/Zenus/Zenith Bush that was in Caswell?
